One thing my first year of business has taught me, well truthfully I’m still trying to pin it down! Is trying to apply for shows without going broke doing it! Each show can cost up to several hundred dollars to secure booth space. And because I have no desire to owe anyone any money, I started Soft Shadows on my own dime with no small business loans. As a result, I can only sign up for art fairs by spending the money I earned at an art fair!
This is all a learning process of course. Teaching me which fairs my art sells best at and which pieces sell best at which venues. It’s a costly lesson but certainly one worth investing in in the long run!
Next year will definitely be a lot smoother!
