As I stood before the Hopi Point veiw of the Grand Canyon, I was struck forcibly by all the times that I’d seen painted depictions of this marvelous vista! It was a feeling that I couldn’t shake. So, as I processed this photograph of Hopi Point at sunset, my intent was to create a finished piece that was representative of the oil paintings that I’d seen all my life before seeing the Grand Canyon for myself. To do this I softened the focus in layers to recreate the same illusion of depth I perceived while viewing those paintings.  Canyon's complex details are revealed from Hopi Point as the setting sun's light skims across the faces of the canyon walls.
